(CLOSED) Junior Accountant / Senior Bookkeeper | Durban North

An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced and detail-oriented Junior Accountant / Senior Bookkeeper to join a well-established concern based in Durban North. This role is ideally suited to a finance professional who is highly organised, technically strong, and comfortable managing a broad accounting function in a compliance-driven environment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing statutory submissions, managing reconciliations, supporting audits, and ensuring all financial reporting is completed accurately and on time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate financial records using Sage Online, including payroll administration
  • Prepare and submit statutory returns, including VAT, PAYE, EMP201 and EMP501
  • Prepare and submit annual Workmen’s Compensation returns
  • Prepare and submit annual Department of Social Development returns
  • Manage complex VAT requirements applicable to a retirement village environment
  • Perform bank reconciliations and supplier reconciliations
  • Prepare general ledger reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Manage petty cash processing and reconciliations
  • Assist with external audit requirements and year-end procedures
  • Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports
  • Ensure accurate and timely filing of financial documentation
  • Assist with budgeting and financial planning processes
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory, financial and regulatory requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Matric plus appropriate accounting qualification (Diploma, Degree or relevant Accounting Certification)
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working on Sage Online, including payroll processing
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Strong understanding of VAT, including input and output VAT calculations
  • Proven experience preparing Workmen’s Compensation annual returns
  • Ability to work accurately under pressure and meet deadlines
  • High level of integrity and ability to manage confidential information
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
