(CLOSED) Engineering General Manager | East Rand, Gauteng

We are looking for an experienced Engineering General Manager to join the team of a specialised engineering design and manufacturing business in the East Rand, Gauteng. 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical engineering, with professional engineering council registration number (to review and approve mechanical engineering designs)
  • Preferably Post graduate qualification in Commerce or business management or related field
  • PR Eng Certification/Registration (please provide with application)

Required Experience

  • Proven experience in a senior leadership role within the manufacturing industry, with at least 10 years of experience.
  • Review and input into design of materials handling solutions, with a view to optimising existing designs, and managing our design office
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, including lean manufacturing principles and quality control processes, preferably in the Steel Industry
  • Knowledge of the Industrial Warehousing, Cold Storage, and Distribution industries.
  • Strong on identifying quality control issues and processes to check production outputs in line with OEM standards.
  • Hydraulic and electrical experience and fundamentals, if possible , specifically with power packs and cylinders.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire teams.
  • Demonstrated track record of driving operational excellence and delivering results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in budgeting, cost control, and financial management

  • Strategic thinker with the ability to develop and execute long-term plans, and a view to optimizing operational and production planning, meeting manufacturing production dates
  • Ability to drive business growth and ensure regulatory compliance
  • Proficiency in data analysis and problem-solving. Advanced Excel competency
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and best practices in manufacturing
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, high-pressure environment
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in material handling equipment industry is a plus but not limiting
  • Knowledge of supply chain and JIT production process and planning for this including the development of the processes to support this for our projects
  • A go getter attitude willing to grow the business and optimise processes

  • Oversee manufacturing operations in the materials handling sector
  • Oversee daily operations of the company, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness
  • Drive mechanical design, manufacturing process optimisation and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Play a key role in shaping the company’s operational strategy and ensuring the achievement of production targets while maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety
  • Strategic planning, managing budgets, leading a diverse team, setting performance goals, and liaising with clients and stakeholders
  • Responsible for driving business growth and ensuring compliance with industry regulations
