A luxury safari lodge in a remote wilderness environment in Zambia is looking for an experienced Assistant General Manager to work closely with the General Manager in the overall operation of the property.

This is a senior, hands-on role for an experienced safari operator who can lead from the front, maintain exceptional guest standards and take ownership of the day-to-day operation. The successful candidate will also assume responsibility for the lodge when the General Manager is off property.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the General Manager across the full lodge operation and daily management
  • Maintain a highly visible presence and personally host and engage with guests
  • Coordinate guest movements, activities, guides, vehicles, boats, transfers and special arrangements
  • Lead and support HODs, ensuring departmental standards, performance and accountability
  • Oversee staffing, training, rosters, performance and staff welfare
  • Monitor operational standards across guest areas, F&B, housekeeping, back-of-house and facilities
  • Oversee stock, procurement, maintenance, infrastructure, vehicles, boats and key lodge assets
  • Assist with budgeting, cost control, financial reporting and operational variances
  • Identify opportunities to improve guest experience, efficiency and on-property revenue
  • Ensure operational issues are actioned, followed through and resolved
  • Support health and safety, compliance, emergency preparedness and lodge projects

Requirements

  • Relevant Bachelor’s degree
  • Senior management experience within an ultra-luxury safari lodge or high-end remote hospitality environment
  • Current or previous experience as a General Manager, Deputy GM, Assistant GM, Lodge Manager, Senior Lodge Manager or equivalent
  • Strong high-touch guest service and hosting ability
  • A genuine all-rounder who is happy to get stuck in across reception, rooms, service, kitchen, activities, operations and property maintenance
  • Practical and resourceful, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems independently in a remote environment
  • Strong people leadership and commercial awareness, including cost, stock, procurement and revenue management
  • Proactive, disciplined and highly organised, with strong follow-through
  • Comfortable living and working permanently in a remote wilderness environment
  • Experience with boats, vehicles and river-based safari operations would be advantageous
  • Open to international candidates; relevant work authorisation will be arranged for the successful candidate
