Our client is looking for a hands-on, dynamic and adaptable Production Sewing Manager. Our client is one of the largest furniture manufacturers in South Africa. Producing fabric and leather product to supply to retail chains in South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, and Swaziland
Minimum qualifications:
- Matric and Tertiary qualification in Production / Operations
- Must have managed 120 staff on a sewing production floor
- Prior sewing management experience is a must, preferably in both a ‘Made to Order’, and bulk manufacturing
- Sewing experience across different industries preferable
- Understanding and ability to manage time in motion
- Ability to rebalance production lines based on available manning levels, and adjust based on absenteeism, in order to achieved planned production as set out by the Planning Manager
- Ability to understand and follow technical sewing drawings
- Ability and experience in implementing new production and house-keeping standards into the department
- Prior production planning experience would benefit
- Minimum 8 years’ experience as a Production Manager in a clothing or furniture manufacturing company
- Hands on knowledge of Industrial Sewing Machines
- Understand machine tension, maintenance, and technical adjustment. ( plus)
- Proficient in Excel, Word and email
- Ability to work with master production plans
- Willing to work long hours and occasional Saturdays
- Must be fit and healthy
- Must have a clear criminal record
- Excellent references
Key responsibilities:
- Responsible for overall factory sewing requirements
- Daily management of 5 sewing clusters
- Management of approximately 150 staff members
- 10 x line Supervisor reports
- Cover Store Supervisor report
- Department mechanic report
- Department sews both leather and fabric furniture products, with various decorative stitching details
- Required to produce the correct quantity, in the allotted time frame, to the correct quality standard
- Manage the sewing department and process from start to finish
- Implement the Master Plan from the planning department
- Oversee team leaders
- Lead and train sewing operators and team leaders to meet production target
- Follow up daily production, line input, and work in progress
- Reduce work in progress and bottlenecks in the sewing line
- Responsible for a sewing line and being accountable
- Planning Production –Based on the system provided by the company for a Time Limit and continuing the same with available resources such as Material, Machinery, and Manpower in the facility
- Wastage reduction & ensuring quality product (QA)
- Ensure all the machines are running according to the specifications in order to achieve Maximum Production
- Prepare and submit daily production achievement report to the time study clerk.
- Safety-oriented and wear proper Personal Protective Equipment
- Keep good relationships with the main QC team
- Ability to plan; Collect all input materials; fabric from the cutting section, thread from the RM stores, needles from the mechanics
- Collect and manage operation sheets and implement the proposed standard operations processes
- Develop methods to increase efficiency by utilising minimum manpower
