Buyer – Construction Consumables, Durban North

Our national client is looking for a dynamic Buyer from the Construction Industry for their KZN Branch with proven experience in procurement of consumables for industrial construction, civil engineering projects, retail and commercial construction projects. The ideal candidate needs to manage procurement for multiple sites and ensure that their planning is proactive and adaptable.


  • BCOM/ BTECH Supply Chain & Procurement or CIPS Level 5
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Buyer in the Construction Industry
  • Proven track record and relationships with suppliers to the construction industry in KZN
  • 2 years Procurement / Logistics supervisory role
  • Logistics and Fleet Management experience
  • Excel advanced and working knowledge of EMWIN
  • Strong negotiation skills (price, quality, delivery, condition, payment terms, etc.)
  • Excellent financial and analytical experience
  • Professional, confident and adaptable
  • Able to work on a multitude of projects at various sites
  • Unendorsed driver’s license and own car
  • Clear criminal record


  • Proactive forecasting and project buying
  • Ensure supplier management and sourcing is ethical and transparent
  • Identify negotiation opportunities for cost benefits including improved terms and conditions
  • Management of supplier contract amendment process
  • Achieve procurement targets and deadlines
  • Evaluate suppliers
  • Monitor and control consumables working capital
  • Roll out and control procurement processes
  • Detect and prevent fraud
  • Maintain and evaluate suppliers by including them on targeted value – added projects, substitutions, aggregation of purchase value engineering
  • Maintain and improve relations with suppliers
  • Monthly spend analysis
  • Logistics management – ensure the correct materials are delivered on time to the correct sites
  • Fleet management
